YFS Holiday Families Youth and Family Services YFS staff members nominate struggling families who have children enrolled in YFS programming (and who are working to improve their circumstances) to receive assistance during the holidays. The YFS Development staff receives profiles of these selected families and work to find individuals or businesses to sponsor them. With funding from these sponsorships, selected families each receive several gifts and a holiday meal for their family to enjoy. The sooner the better, but donations must be in by Dec. 16. It takes $250 to sponsor a family, including meal and gifts. Donors can either contact YFS for a list of information on the family – ex: sizes and preferences – or donate cash and YFS will do the shopping. Connie Olson

Meals on Wheels Spearfish Nutrition Site Meals on Wheels is a donation-based program that provides meals to elderly and home-bound residents. A portion of each meal is paid with state assistance while another portion is covered by a requested donation by the recipient of meals. However donations usually fall short of covering the cost of meals.

You can sponsor a meal for the elderly with a suggested donation of $4 per meal.
