Red Ribbon Week 2019 Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.
Rapid City observes Red Ribbon Week Oct. 28 – Nov.1. This annual event was created by the National Family Partnership in 1985 as a way to raise awareness and help prevent the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America.
Join us for this year’s kick-off event on Monday, October 28th at 4:00 at Dinosaur Park. Ribbons will be collected from Rapid City Schools with thousands of signatures of students – pledging to be drug-free. Mayor Allender will deliver a message and sign the Red Ribbon Week proclamation.
Wear your red ribbon and visit the following businesses October 28 – November 1 to receive a special thank you.
