Our Team

Rick DenHerder

Rick “The Boss” DenHerder is our fearless leader with years of experience in publishing and sales, alike. He made the move with his family from Omaha, NE after purchasing Black Hills Visitor magazine in December 1999. Since then, he has built a flourishing publishing company with seven titles – Evergreen Media.

Rick is well known for his quick wit and love of Hot Tamales.

Cody Schreiber

Cody could have a conversation with a brick wall (and sell it something, too)! This out-going people-person is another USD grad who fits right in at BH Parent. When not working, he is out with his wife, Maddy, exploring the sites of the Black Hills, hunting, and golfing.

Stephen Nelson

Strategic Marketing Manager

Stephen’s mind never turns off, partially due to his caffeine intake.  This blessing in disguise often results in a variety of new ideas and concepts to keep his wheels turning. He’s a wilderness aficionado who immensely enjoys the solitude of the Great Outdoors regardless of season. You can regularly find him out and about with his girlfriend Denice and their two pups Murphy and Milly.

Meghan Rose

After graduating from USD (Go Yotes!), Meghan joined the BH Parent team. She is always down for a cup of coffee or a road trip, despite driving a 2000 Honda Accord. She claims the distinction of being the only cat lover in the office!

Courtney Buck

Courtney is the smiling face of Evergreen Media, as she greets everyone who comes into our office. When she’s not running around doing any number of chores, she is singlehandedly making sure the office runs smoothly!

Editorial Staff

John Edwards

From across the pond, our Art Superhero, John leads us into the great beyond with his years of experience in publishing. By day, he works to rescue whitespace from its evil counterpart clutter. By night he transforms into Super-Dad caring for his three little ones alongside Super-Mom (his wife, Amanda.)

Jenna Carda

Able to jump from one project to the next, Jenna organizes everything you see in the magazine and online into a story-telling masterpiece. From working on editorial with our production team to creating videos, she stays up on the social trends, believing that a little bit of glitter and glue can fix almost anything.

Chris Valencia

Chris will take your ideas and make them oh so wonderful. From creating beautiful ads for our partners, to bringing you the page layout of the magazine, he has an eye for design. You’re sure to find him running, hiking, or enjoying anything and everything the Black Hills has to offer.

Kelsey Sinclair

Kelsey is a STEM student but writing is her passion. Before moving to the Mount Rushmore state, she traveled the world with her military mom, living in places like Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, Africa, and Europe! When she isn’t working or studying, she likes exploring abandoned towns, traveling, and hiking in the beautiful Black Hills.

Jesse Brown Nelson

On Instagram, he’s known as @jessebrownnelson; on the softball field, he’s called “El Jefe”; but in the office, he is simply Jesse, the award-winning photographer. This Rapid City native studied photography, mass communication, and graphic design at BHSU. He likes hiking, biking, climbing, camping, and snowboarding and is frequently found exploring the hard-to-fit spots of the Black Hills with his beloved pup, Marley.
