Life is Your Journey – Travel Drug Free

RAPID CITY

Tuesday – Dino-Tying

Join us as we tie the large red ribbon around the dinosaur’s neck at Dinosaur Park with thousands of signatures of youth and adults in Rapid City that have pledged to be DRUG FREE.

Friday – Spirit & Decoration Day Award Judging

Judges from the Rushmore Noon Optimist Club will visit Rapid City public and private schools that sign up to compete for the Spirit Award.

Traveling trophy and $250 cash award for the winning elementary school and winning secondary school.

 

ALL WEEK, CUSTER

Custer Elementary will celebrate Red Ribbon/Character Counts/UNITY Week, taking the week to focus on positive choices, positive character and anti-bullying through recognizing and celebrating UNITY Day. Students will wear different colors representing various traits of the Pillars of Character-Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  

The Student Council will be making large red ribbons for each classroom as well as making door decorations. They will also be sending positive messages to the students throughout the week as well during morning announcements.

Additionally, an ALL School Photo with CES students and Staff, Law Enforcement, and our Character All-Star Students will be taken by local photographer, Paul Horsted.  This years formation will be a compass.

 

ALL WEEK, BOX ELDER

Each school will participate in a daily dress up days as well as a Red Ribbon Week Poster contest. Students at each school are asked to create their own poster using this year’s theme of “Life is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free.” Each building will select winners and submit their top three posters to be voted on for over-all winners. Two top posters will be chosen on the district level, one from grades K-5th and one from grades 6-12. Those two winners will receive $25.00 dollars and have their poster blown up to hang in their building. In addition to the $25.00 prize, individual buildings have prizes to give to the buildings poster contest winners.

ALL WEEK, LEAD-DEADWOOD

Lead-Deadwood Community School District On October 25th, the Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) at Lead-Deadwood Middle School will be entertaining grades K-2 with a puppet show focusing on staying safe and the importance of not using tobacco products. TATU members will also host a health fair for grades 3-5 where students will be able to visit with several different drug-free information booths.

Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) is a program that allows students ages 14-17 to mentor youngsters about the dangers of smoking.

 

ALL WEEK, SPEARFISH

Spearfish Community School District The Spearfish Community Coalition is a volunteer driven non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize the community to support positive, healthy and drug free youth. The Coalition will be celebrating Red Ribbon week with the following activities:

  • All elementary students will receive pencils with drug-free messages
  • The middle school will have drug-free themed dress-up days throughout the week, digital presentations throughout the week during lunch periods, giveaways, and school-wide assembly focusing on drug abuse statistics.
  • The high school will have daily drug abuse trivia and giveaways
