Birthday parties are a rite of passage for parents of little ones (and sometimes, not-so-little ones). Planning a party can be tricky, especially when your kids’ tastes are constantly changing. They might be really into Elsa from Frozen today, but tomorrow, profess an interest in unicorns or mermaids. Plus, a lot of work goes into opening up your home to others.
If you’d rather let somebody else do most of the heavy lifting, there are plenty of birthday party venues in the Black Hills. Here are some of our favorites!
Entertainment Birthday Party Venues
Live-action team-based games in which players discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in order to “escape” from the room before time expires. Packages are available for $15 per guest (child rate) with each room accommodating 2-8 guests.
Your kids will have a great time painting with a Canvas and Kids Birthday Party. The cost is $250 for groups of eight and includes all supplies. You can add additional painters for $25 each.
Parties are fun and art is fun. Combining them is even better! A birthday party at the Dahl gives your kids an opportunity to get creative. Choose from a list of customized party themes including Frozen, Superheroes, watercolor, and many more. Prices start at $40.
Indoor racing, laser tag and paintball arenas offer kids of all ages a fun and unique birthday experience. Birthday parties receive a discounted group rate of 10 tickets for $45, or 22 tickets (enough for five guests) for $90. Additional tickets cost $4.
Three party packages are available starting at $125 for up to 10 guests. All include reserved time in the party room, plus adventure tickets and bags of coins for each guest. Custom packages and private parties are also available; contact the venue for rates.
Kids can get creative in the private, kid-friendly party event space and bring home a great memento. The basic party package starts at $18 per painter for groups of eight or more, and adults are welcome to participate, too! Themed packages are available as well. Each party includes 1.5 hours of studio time.
Nearly 200 vintage arcade games promise hours of fun for kids of all ages. Packages cost $13 per guest for up to 10 guests. This birthday party venue is such a great time you’ll want to come back for all your family celebrations!
Studio fees are waived and birthday parties can be completely customized to include pottery painting, wheel throwing, and more. You’ll just pay for your guests’ pottery; expect to spend around $150 for 10 guests.
Themed party packages let you choose from 10 craft themes and cost $120 for up to eight guests ($10 for each additional guest), or you can design your own party package for just $50 (bring your own craft supplies for this one). All packages include invitations, thank-you notes, and a drawstring bag for the guest of honor. Add face painting for $25.
A variety of party themes are available, including a Fairy Tea Party, Disco Inferno, Hannah Montana, Hip Hop, and lots more! Prices average $100 for under 10 kids ($150 for 10+), but contact the studio for a quote.
Saturday and Sunday morning birthday party packages are available for $175 (unlimited guests) and include a movie and 10 jungle paks.
Birthday party cost is $149.99 for an hour and a half birthday party for up to 12 children. Party favors, napkins, plates and utensils, games, fruit infused water, balloons and snacks are included. Bring your own cake.
Venues with Activities
Looking for birthday party venues that will get your kid and their friends up off their feet and having a great time? These activity-based venues are the perfect place!
Several themed and specialty packages are available; these include 60 minutes of supervised fun in the main gym (which includes inflatables, a trampoline, climbing wall, and ninja obstacle course) and 45 minutes in the birthday room to open gifts and enjoy refreshments. Each child receives a balloon and the birthday child will get a t-shirt.
Kids (up to six per lane) can bowl for $35 per lane per hour, with an $8.75 per lane charge for each 15 minutes over the hour until you reach the next hour. Bumper lanes are available for children ages 9 and under. Shoe rentals are included.
You can rent the party room for $40 (1 hour 45 minutes; maximum 12 guests; group golf rate $7.95 per person) or choose from two packages: $99 includes the party room, 18 holes of mini golf, a gift for the birthday child, soft drink, and glow bracelet; $119 adds a hot dog or hamburger, chips, free refills, a glow necklace, and balloon bouquet. Additional charges apply for extra guests.
Your child can burn off the birthday cake by tumbling, jumping, and bouncing in a fun, safe, and creative environment. Prices start at $150 for up to 12 guests and include a full-sized pit, Olympic-sized trampoline, tumble track, bounce house, trapeze bar and more, as well as a goody bag and a t-shirt for the birthday child. Staff will supervise and entertain the kids with special games. Interested in an offsite party? Robbinsdale Entertainment Center
Two birthday bowling packages are available: $30/hour per lane, including free shoe rental and use of party area for 30 minutes after bowling is completed; and $40/hour per lane, which adds 1 large single topping pizza and 1 pitcher of soda.
Come during open swim and the staff will host your party, providing party favors, pop, ice cream, and all paper products. $89 for 2.5 hours (or $73 for 1.5 hours) for eight children; $9 for each additional child; $6 general admission for those ages 3-59 not receiving the “extras.”
Run Wild Indoor & Outdoor Playground
This family-owned business focuses on interactive play and foundational life skills. Their Birthday Bash package ($150 Mon. – Wed.; $175 Fri. – Sun.) includes a private party event space for 1.5 hours, themed party supplies, pizza, beverage, gift for each participant, and 10 daily admissions for kids to stay and play after the party.
WaTiki Indoor Waterpark Resort
Three different packages are available at this birthday party venue ranging from $19.99 – $26.99 per child. All include waterpark admission, a $5 arcade card, pizza, soda, and two spectator passes. Eight-guest minimum for each package.
It’s fun to play at the YMCA on your birthday! Rent the Courtyard, and they will provide a private event space with plenty of tables and chairs. You can create an entire party package by adding on swimming time in the family pool, reserving a gym to host your own games, or spending time in the Youth Center. Contact the YMCA for current rates.
Outdoor Birthday Party Venues
Starting a new year in the beautiful outdoors is sure to make a statement with your kid and their friends. Check out these outdoor Black Hills birthday party venues — they’re a breath of fresh air!
Picnic shelters are available and can accommodate unlimited guests. Many are free on a first-come, first-serve basis; others can be rented for $75.
A birthday party room near the tortoise yard can accommodate up to 20 reptile-obsessed kids and is available for $50 (regular admission rates apply unless you have a season pass). The fee includes a t-shirt for the birthday child and a visit from a staff member who will bring along special animal guests for the kids to interact with.
The birthday house is available in three different three-hour time slots and can seat up to 30 people for $108. You’ll have access to a refrigerator/freezer, sink, tables and chairs, private restroom, and A/C. You can also rent the white gazebo (seats up to 15) for $48.60. If you’re really in the mood to splurge, rent the entire park for a half day (call for pricing).
A wide variety of experiences are available including animal encounters, horseback riding, scavenger hunts, games, crafts, and more. Prices start at $9 per child (10 guests maximum). Contact the vendor for a quote.
