Celebrating Week of the Young Child

As part of Week of the Child™ the Rapid City Arts Council is collaborating with Early Childhood Connections to present Mini Masters, a children’s art exhibition created through local childcare and preschool programs. The exhibition will be open April 3 – 27 in the Art Start Studio at the Dahl Arts Center. A reception for the artists and their families will be held from 5 – 7pm on Tuesday, April 10. Family, friends and the community are encouraged to attend.

Week of the Young Child™ focuses attention on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. It is also a time to thank the adults involved in children’s education and care. Parents, teachers, caregivers, and other adults play important roles in the lives of young children, and the Week of the Young Child™ celebrates their contributions.

The RCAC recognizes that early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life. As a community we can show support for early learning by promoting early literacy, art and physical education programs, thanking teachers who care for and educate our children, and ensure that our public policies support early learning for all young children.

Week of the Young Child™ is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including childcare and Head Start programs, preschools, and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.

The Dahl Arts Center galleries are open Monday – Friday, 10am – 6pm and Saturday, 10am – 5pm. Admission is free; however, for those with the ability to pay, donations are encouraged and appreciated. For more information about upcoming exhibits, visit thedahl.org.
